Tell us about how students prepared for this activity?
Kenwood High School Senior class participated in an in school AAA PROMise event Wednesday, May 1, 2019.
The AAA PROMise program is designed to encourage young drivers and their parents/guardians to talk about the dangers of underage drinking, drug use and impaired driving — especially during prom and graduation season when many teen-related crashes occur.
Ms. Megan Cooper, Tennessee Public Affairs Specialist with the AAA – The Auto Club Group, gave students statistics on teen alcohol and drug related crashes and encouraged students to make the right decision when it comes to underage drinking, drugs and impaired driving.
Students then heard from Kathy Kilgore Beeler, a volunteer and victim advocate for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Tennessee. Kathy put a face to the statistics as she shared her story about her son Cole’s drunk driving crash at the age of 19 and how impaired driving forever changed her life.
After the presentation, students were able to take the AAA pledge, which states:
I promise not to drink alcohol or take drugs.
I promise not to drive impaired.
I promise not to let my friends drive impaired.
I promise my parents I will get home safely or call them for help.
