Our students and teachers volunteered to serve with The 24/7 Movement, The Bradley County Sheriff’s Department, & The Cleveland City Police Department at “The Christmas Wrap” at the Bradley Square Mall in Cleveland, TN on Dec. 9. The goal of the program was to serve the community during a very difficult month (one year after the fatal car crash that killed Brittany & Dustin Dillard) while raising awareness of the dangers of impaired and distracted driving during “Drunk Driving Awareness Month”. Walker Valley students brought their parents with them to help wrap shopper’s Christmas presents for free. While students, their parents and members of law enforcement were wrapping presents, shoppers were given the opportunity to go thru one of the impaired activity stations while wearing fatal vision goggles. Volunteers and Law Enforcement talked them thru their experience, while educating shoppers on the law related to drunk and distracted driving. Our Chief of Police, Mark Gibson and our Sheriff, Steve Lawson participated with our students. More than 400 presents were wrapped for free, 100 shoppers completed one of the impairment activities, 25 people took the “Safe Driving Pledge” and made “The I Will Not Be Silent Promise”.
