Regional Launch Banquet for The 24/7 Movement

Project Description

Our students assisted in the planning and implementation for The 24/7 Movement Regional Launch Banquet (a newly formed 501(c)(3) organization working to reduce and prevent impaired and distracted driving in honor of their teacher, Brittany Dillard). Students attended several planning meetings leading up to the event, reached out to other High Schools in our area that participated event. Students served in the following ways; impairment awareness activity stations, manned the 24/7 movement booth – distributing Choices Matter wristbands, educational materials and safe driving t-shirts, helped to seat people, served dinner, manned a photo station, assisted with the set-up and clean-up. Three of our students spoke during the banquet on the impact of losing their teacher because of a bad choice a driving made to drink and drive. Leadership from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, Regional Law Enforcement, Administration from 3 of our High Schools including 2 Superintendents, our mayors and county/city commissioners attended. More than 60 students participated. The first part of the program focused on telling the Dillard story from the Christmas Night crash while the 2nd part focused on DUI & Distracted Driving Awareness, future initiatives and programs that will impact schools and the community. Over $100,000 was raised to help reduce and prevent impaired and distracted driving.
