In celebration of National Teen Driver Safety Week, we would like to recognize Tennessee superstars making a difference in the lives of our youth. Today’s superstar is Mike Herrick from Cookeville Police Department, nominated by Beth Vernon, Program Manager for the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.
“Mike makes teen driver safety a top priority. He is constantly interacting with the students in Cookeville area schools. He attends Tennessee Teen Institute almost annually himself and takes one or more teams of students to ensure they have transportation. He started an annual driver safety event in his community that has exploded to an all-day event requiring several street closings due to participation. He also uses his Tennessee Highway Safety Office grant to purchase supplies like Oculus goggles to educate teens on impaired driving and more.”
